The Mind on Fire Institute (MOFI) launched in January 2025 in Philadelphia as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Our mission is simple but urgent: to create a home for lifelong learning beyond traditional education.

Too often, schools speak of cultivating “lifelong learners,” but what happens once formal schooling ends? For many, learning becomes solitary, scattered, or lost amid the demands of daily life. Book clubs provide camaraderie but lack depth; adult courses exist but often remain introductory or tied to professional credentials.

MOFI fills this gap. We host sessions for adults of all ages — from working professionals to retirees — who want to study philosophy, literature, and history not for a degree, but for self-discovery. Each session is distinctive, led by facilitators who bring fresh approaches to timeless texts. Together, we uncover forgotten works, rediscover the joy of rigorous conversation, and make learning a way of life.
