The impact of a warm, delicious meal in the postpartum time feels like immense relief, especially when parents are deeply exhausted, isolated, overwhelmed, and consumed by their baby's needs. Nourishing food is essential for the long haul of postpartum healing and the orientation of parenthood.

This is why Giftbaby Postpartum Meals exists - to provide care to BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ parents and caregivers - with seasonal, free postpartum meal deliveries on a weekly basis.  These meals are for parents even two years into their child’s life, as postpartum journeys continue well past the vulnerable few weeks right after birth. 

Every meal is made with Dirtbaby Farm’s freshly harvested and nutrient-dense produce, grown on our small farm in Philadelphia. Each weekly menu developed by our Chef and Doula team balances postpartum nutrition with our shifting seasonal ingredients; and every single one is delicious!  These meals are completely FREE for those that receive them, including home delivery.

In the last 4 years, Giftbaby Postpartum Meals has been possible through community fundraising and volunteer labor from our team, but this year we are grateful to have funding support from the Philadelphia Food Justice Initiative and other foundational funding. This means that for the first time we are not fundraising for the 2025 program but for the continuation of this offering in years to come.  It’s an exciting moment - a chance to build forward and imagine what longevity can look like for this program.  We are nurturing a long term model that relies on a gifting economy – relying on our relationship to the land and with each other and our community of parents.  As Robin Wall Kimmerer explains – the Serviceberry shows us, “wealth comes from the quality of your relationships, not from the illusion of self sufficiency.” So we humbly ask for your support to share this fundraiser and continue to be a part of our journey.  Your contributions remain vital to this program and your support keeps our meals free for more parents and caregivers for this program into 2026 and beyond.
