Story
THE PROBLEM
First responders are on the frontlines of emergencies, responsible for protecting and saving lives. Their ability to think clearly, make sound decisions, and respond effectively to high-pressure situations is paramount. Without the burden of mental health issues, first responders can perform their duties with focus, efficiency, and resilience, ensuring the safety and well-being of the communities they serve.
First responders are at a higher risk for mental health issues due to the nature of their work. Police officers, firefighters, paramedics, and other emergency personnel regularly face high-stress situations and witness traumatic events. This exposure can lead to PTSD, anxiety, depression, and substance abuse.
In 2019, 230 first responders lost their lives in the line of duty. That same year, 378 first responders took their own lives. The number of suicides is increasing year after year, surpassing the number of deaths in the line of duty. This is a crisis that we cannot continue to ignore.
WHERE IS YOUR MONEY GOING?
Your donation plays a vital role in supporting our mission and making a tangible impact on the lives of those first responders we serve. With your support, we are able to allocate funds towards critical areas such as program development, research, education, and direct services to our beneficiaries. Just like any business, we have expenses. Office rent, liability insurance, software, class fees, and supplies are just a few things that take valuable money. We would also like to note, no member of our team is paid. Every team member from the executive director to the peer advocate is a volunteer, allowing us to pipe as much money into the mission as possible!
