Giving Tuesday 2023- Bousner Memorial Fund

In 2018, In Harmony Therapeutic Services established the Bousner Memorial Fund, in which proceeds may be used for “any purpose that results in one or more individuals having improved access to music therapy or music enrichment programming”. This fund directly aligns with our mission to provide equitable access to music therapy. Of our current individual clients, 83% receive external funding support. Of those, 30% are receiving support from the Bousner Memorial Fund.

Recipients of this funding have expressed their immense gratitude for the access the music therapy the Bousner Memorial Fund has provided. A parent of one of In Harmony’s clients recently wrote this:

“My sweet girl is suspected to have Childhood Apraxia of Speech, which requires her to have 4-5 speech therapy sessions a week, some of which is not covered by insurance. Knowing that this is something she needs to find her voice and my willingness to do anything to help her has us spending several hundred dollars a month in therapy. She is your typical kid, who just happens to have a speech disorder, so I wanted to put her in an extracurricular that will also help her develop. That is when I found In Harmony Therapeutic Services. Support her musical inclination and her speech? Win Win! Then I found out that because music therapy is relatively new and insurance doesn't yet recognize it, so it was another thing that would cost us out of pocket. I wondered how I could afford it. Then I was told about the Bousner Memorial Fund and I applied on my daughter's behalf. Without this fund, I wouldn't have been able to afford these sessions and I wouldn't get the opportunity to hear my daughter sing, watch her dance and use her words to tell Ms. Alicia “Twinkle Twinkle little star again”. Every child deserves a voice and because of this fund I can help give my daughter one.” - Mom

Currently, all the funding in this account has been allocated. Today on Giving Tuesday, we have a goal of raising $5000. This will allow us to replenish this fund and ensure that the individuals currently receiving this support are able to access services in the new year- as well as have funding available for new clients.
