Liberia imports roughly 7 out of every 10 bags of rice its people consume, while Liberian farmers have land they cannot fully cultivate because they lack access to machinery.

Your donation can help launch a mechanization initiative that puts equipment and trained operators within farmers’ reach. More cultivated land means more locally grown food, stronger rural incomes, and less dependence on imports -advancing the national call of Liberia’s Agriculture Development Plan: “Liberians Feed Yourselves.”

Learn More About the Project

Agribusiness Solutions is developing a professionally managed agricultural mechanization program to help Liberian farmers cultivate more land and increase local food production, by subsidizing the rental mechanization equipment for those who cannot afford the cost.

The initial project is expected to focus on Nimba County. Agribusiness Solutions is also pursuing an opportunity to operate or co-manage an existing Ministry of Agriculture mechanization hub, subject to completion of the necessary agreements.

The planned service will provide farmers and agricultural groups with affordable access to machinery operated by trained personnel. Initial services are expected to include:

Plowing, harrowing, and preparing already-cleared farmland
Mechanized planting where suitable equipment is available
Harvest assistance for compatible crops as capacity develops
Equipment scheduling, operator supervision, maintenance, and service accountability

Machinery will be provided as part of a managed service rather than rented for customers to operate independently. This approach will help protect the equipment, maintain service quality, and ensure responsible use.

What Your Donation Will Help Build

Your contribution can support:

Equipment acquisition or access
Operator recruitment and training
Maintenance and equipment-management systems
Farmer outreach and farm assessment
Scheduling and field coordination
Recordkeeping and financial accountability
Responsible program administration

Mechanization is the starting point: not the limit of the vision. By helping farmers complete essential work on time and cultivate more land, this project can strengthen rural livelihoods, increase Liberia’s domestic food supply, and reduce the country’s vulnerability to rising import prices and disruptions in the international food supply.

Answering the National Call

Liberia’s National Agriculture Development Plan (2024 - 2030) calls upon the nation:

“Liberians Feed Yourselves.”

Your support can help turn that national call into practical action.

Help equip Liberian farmers to cultivate more land and produce more food at home.
