Moving a few miles away saved his life.

Great Lakes Rabbit Sanctuary got an email in May 2026 about four barn cats who needed help. A family who lived near GLRS was moving to a new home that didn't allow pets. No shelters were taking in barn cats, and these four cats would be euthanized immediately unless a new, permanent home was found. While GLRS does not advocate for making a cat an outdoor cat, we cannot reverse their history and expect them to change. We welcomed these four kitties with open arms, and lots of catnip!

The family who needed to surrender these cats asked that we keep their names, and we did our best to respect those wishes. While we already had a Henry (the pig) at GLRS, and that was this boy's original name, we altered his name a little to Henry Jr.
