At the end of March, I will be traveling to Rwanda for the first time alongside ThruGuidance. I will be volunteering with the Rwanda for Education program in Kigali, helping to support the incredible work Kendal and her team have built.

One of the primary goals of this trip is to build something impactful for the students, and I personally want to be a part of helping to make that happen, so I am tapping my personal network for assistance.

Currently, many of the students in Kigali have limited access to technology. We have decided to create a computer lab at the learning center so students can begin to build essential digital skills needed in today's world. As most of us know, having access to a reliable device allows students to learn, conduct research, become digitally literate and just expand all possibilities.

Our initial goal for this trip it to bring at least 15 Chromebooks. Ultimately, our hope is to grow this effort into a full computer lab with 30-45 devices, which would allow an entire class to learn together. Because many of these students will be using a device for the very first time, it is important that we maintain uniformity in the devices we purchase. Using the same model Chromebook will allow the instructor to teach the students collectively, ensuring everyone is navigating on the same systems and programs.

ThruGUIDANCE is a black female-led and founded organization by Kendal R. Troutman in 2011.
