Story

Why a 7K?

It is not uncommon for Kenyan students to walk 7 kilometers to and from school each day. Many of these students have to walk through safari territory just to get to school each day. This year, we wanted to start the year out by walking or running in solidarity with these students. Due to COVID-19, their schools were closed in 2020, but in January 2021 they re-opened!

Humans for Education is on a mission to end extreme poverty in our lifetime by educating and implementing solutions for financial independence for impoverished communities. These funds will ensure thousands of people experience sustainable, long-term, financial independence, which will lead to better quality education and health care.

Join us in making a difference for thousands of people in 2021! Create your team or join a team here!

Feel free to share your awesome photos with us on social media! Feel free to tag us with #humans4edu. We are on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and TikTok

Where will my money go?

Since we began in 2016, over 4,200 individuals in Kenya’s Maasai Mara region have benefitted from our revolutionary model that eliminates financial barriers to education and medical clinics. Using our innovative, scientific data collection procedures we intend to scale up to reach ~5,000 children and parents alike this year.

This provides an opportunity for donors to part-take in long-term, sustainable solutions to poverty eradication for entire communities.

Since operations began in 2016, Humans for Education has seen a steady and significant increase in profitability of our small businesses for our schools. Our sophisticated data collection program shows that schools have increased their income by 50% and increased their savings by 100% within the first 2 years of working with us. The new funding led to additional benefits to the schools, such as additional classrooms, tables, latrines, textbooks, teachers, better food, electricity, internet, and a playground. The small business led to fewer requests from the school to the parents for payment and 46% of parents said this positively affected their income. The WASH program showed a significant 36% decrease in malaria, typhoid, and dysentery after just one year of implementation, leading to reduced healthcare costs at school and at home. The scholarships benefitted the families so much that some started new businesses, while others sent more children to school or provided extra meals per day for their families.
