Statewide, one in seven families depend on SNAP benefits to put food on their table, and nearly 60% of those households have children. In Kent County, more than 73,000 people are waiting to find out if their benefits will be restored with the federal shutdown. SNAP benefits provide nine times more meals than charities do, according to the Community Food Club.
