My name is Kristin, and my husband Jeff and I are parents to our amazing 9-year-old daughter, Kaiya. Last year, when Kaiya was 8, she was finally diagnosed with Turner Syndrome—a discovery that brought both answers and hope after years of unexplained health challenges.
Kaiya came into the world a few weeks early but healthy. However, almost immediately, we noticed concerns with her vision. By 6 weeks old, we were consulting with multiple specialists, who recommended an MRI of her brain to rule out serious conditions—thankfully, nothing was found. Yet, over the years, Kaiya endured repeated health scares, multiple hospitalizations, and countless tests without resolution. It wasn’t until a genetic screening for retinal disorders revealed "significant abnormalities with the X chromosome" that an ophthalmologist finally set us on the right path to her Turner Syndrome diagnosis.
Even with a clinical background myself, I had never heard of Turner Syndrome before. After Kaiya was diagnosed, we faced what so many families experience: a whirlwind of specialist visits, tests, and difficult unknowns. It was one of the hardest times we’ve been through. But through this journey, we’ve seen something remarkable—Kaiya’s strength and positivity. She has embraced Turner Syndrome as her "superpower."
Unfortunately, Turner Syndrome often remains undiagnosed for years, sometimes even into adolescence or adulthood, simply due to a lack of awareness. Early diagnosis and intervention can transform lives, and this is why support for the Turner Syndrome Foundation is so critical. Donations fund education, research, and programs to help diagnose and support these children earlier, giving them the best chance to thrive.
Kaiya's story is just one example of the difference awareness can make. With your contributions, the Turner Syndrome Foundation can continue to empower children and families by making early diagnosis more accessible and offering the resources they need. Thank you for your kindness, support, and for helping us spread awareness of this life-changing condition.
Together, we can make a lasting impact. 💜
