We are telling the stories behind the statistics to give this population a voice and to build empathy within people who are housed in Portland and beyond.

The documentary will educate Oregonians on the root causes of homelessness which point towards the lack of affordable housing and increasing rents. Better informed people create better long-term solutions. We are forming a coalition built on the power of stories to raise awareness and create momentum to help pass research-backed policies to help end homelessness in the region.

THE CRISIS IN PORTLAND, OR
6,297 people are experiencing homelessness in Portland, OR. 2,610 of the people counted are chronically homeless.
This has caused people who live on the streets to be dehumanized and mistreated. A deep apathy has developed and many have lost empathy towards people experiencing homelessness. The documentary, "Humanizing Portland", will be dedicated to stirring others to deeply care again about the humanity of those living on the streets.

THE DOCUMENTARY
Facts don't change lives, stories do. Researcher Dr. Paul J. Zak writes, "Narratives that cause us to pay attention and also involve us emotionally are the stories that move us to action. This is what a good documentary film does." This 30-45 minute film is going to catalyze a movement and inspire every day Oregonians to take action for their neighbors impacted by homelessness.

THE LASTING IMPACT
If we don't act, more people will become homeless and we will continue to spend enormous amounts of money merely managing the problem. We all lose.

If we succeed, all people will have a safe and stable place to lay their head at night, people will feel safe going downtown, and we'll set an example for the rest of the nation to follow.

OUR FUNDRAISING GOAL
We are currently raising $130,000 to produce "Humanizing Portland". With our launch plan, we will generate an estimated 300,000 to 2 million views. Our goal is to raise this amount by June 31st, 2024. Will you support us?
