We’re raising $60,000 for AIM’s food access programs that support our local food systems holistically. Will you join us with a generous gift of any amount that will help families, farmers, and soil thrive in 2022?

$35 – funds the equivalent of 1 Bounty Box delivered to a community member experiencing food insecurity.
$60 - funds one packet of Senior Bonus Bucks for older adults experiencing nutrition insecurity.
$150 - funds 10 children to visit a working farm on an educational field trip.
$250 - funds 15 households to receive fresh fruits and vegetables (through Market Match program).
$500 - funds one virtual training workshop for farmers and food makers on increasing sales and marketing.
$1,000 - funds the Rollin' Root mobile farmers' market for an entire day of operation!

About this campaign:

Families: It continues to be a tough time for many in our community. Too many individuals and families are under economic stress and struggle to afford the basics, including fresh fruits and vegetables. But everyone deserves access to vibrant, fresh, nutrient-dense foods with dignity. AIM's programs worked hard to support families in 2021:

Distributed $688,359 in nutritional benefits to shoppers who have low-income, representing a 179% increase over 2020.

Packed 4,352 free Bounty Boxes for community members facing nutrition insecurity.

Advocated for state funding that led to $10 million being released to the California Nutrition Incentive Program and $500,000 to the Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program in 2021-22.

Farmers: On the farmers side, many small-scale producers are also coping with difficult conditions. Small-scale farming is a challenge in the best of times, made even more so by the combined economic pressures of the pandemic, the drought, and the rising costs of goods. Those who work hard to nourish us, who tend to the land with love and care, deserve fair compensation and a healthy financial future. In 2021, AIM:

Provided over $269,000 in financial assistance to small family farmers participating in our Rollin’ Root and Bounty Box food access programs.

Raised $12,000 and counting for the Racial Equity Fund, to support Black, Indigenous, and People of Color farmers beginning at the farmers market.

Soil: The pressures on small farmers reflect the increasing corporatization and consolidation of agriculture nationally. “Big agriculture” forces are also those that promote the use of toxic chemicals and soil-depleting practices on a massive scale. Investing in local farmers who use sustainable, regenerative practices is also an investment in the health and wellbeing of our soil, seas, and skies. In 2021, AIM:

Advocated on four initiatives at the legislative level on behalf of market participants and farmers markets.

This included Assembly Bill 125, resulting in over $1.3 billion in funding for healthy food access, farm worker housing, sustainable agriculture, and resilient food and farming systems.
