HEARD’s Prison Visitation Fund supports loved ones (family, friends, partners, spouses, etc.) visiting deaf/disabled people in jails and prisons to cover the costs of travel such as: gas, plane/train/bus tickets, hotel stays, or other expenses related to visitation.
HEARD is starting our Prison Visitation Fund because we know that deaf/disabled incarcerated people are often very isolated with no exposure to sign language and no way to connect with their loved ones. We know that visitation has many barriers and can be very expensive which makes it even harder for our communities to stay connected.
HEARD’s Prison Visitation Fund seeks to resist the forced isolation of prison and help maintain connection between deaf/disabled incarcerated people and their loved ones.
For more information, please visit our FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions) available in ASL and English. If you or someone you know would benefit from financial support to visit an incarcerated loved one, please fill out or refer them to this form, available in ASL and English.
Prisons are often located in rural areas making travel difficult and costly. Flights alone can be upwards of $500 which does not consider other expenses, such as ground transportation or lodging.
We hope that you will consider donating any amount to help community members seeking support through HEARD’s Prison Visitation fund. Donations will allow us to assist more people, encourage safe connections, and reduce the daunting impacts of isolation deaf/disabled incarcerated people experience.
