🦉Hoot hoot! Owl Fund gifts to the Hearst PTA enhance our school programs and ensure that all students and teachers have the resources they need. Your contribution will help fund:

• buses for classroom field trips,
• after-school tutoring programs,
• supply stipends for every teacher and classroom,
• before- and after-care scholarships,
• teacher appreciation programs and development funds,
• seed money for Room Parents,
• community events like Screen on the Green, 
• free childcare during PTA meetings and Back to School nights,
• support for our partner schools in Brookland through the HOOT Force Fund, 
• and more!

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Owl Fund the only school fundraiser of the year? No, but it's one of the most important! The Hearst PTA relies on family contributions to the Owl Fund to provide over half of their budget to support students each year. Other opportunities to support our Hearst Owls include the spring auction, school dining nights, and more.

Is my donation to the Owl Fund tax deductible? Yes! All contributions to the Hearst PTA/Owl Fund are tax deductible as permitted by law (EIN 52-1121375).

What is the HOOT Force Fund? The Hearst community is dedicated to educational equity, both within our school community and across DCPS. In order to help support students and families across D.C., our HOOT Force Fund donates 15% of the proceeds from this October "Owl Fund" campaign to CARE Brookland, which provides support to Noyes Elementary School, Bunker Hill Elementary School, John Burroughs Elementary School, Brookland Middle School, and Luke C Moore Opportunity Academy.

Hearst's commitment to support fellow D.C. schools through the Hoot Force Fund was renewed during the spring 2025 PTA meetings and is revisited every two years. Please note that only Owl Fund gifts support the Hoot Force Fund, and that contributions through our general giving form or other fundraisers (like the auction) direct proceeds solely to the Hearst community.

How much should we give? Gifts of all sizes help, and we trust you to decide what fits within your family's financial priorities. Families give gifts ranging from $5 to upwards of $5,000. The more families participate, the more likely we are to meet the needs of our Hearst community.
