The brother of a beloved community member and immigrant leader in Lynn is in detention in Arizona after fleeing for his life in response to threats to him and his family in Guatemala. He was victimized by a criminal syndicate who forced him into debt, briefly kidnapped him, then said they would kill him when he couldn’t pay what they claimed he owed.

Facing these threats, he fled the country for the U.S. and his wife and three children went into hiding. When he crossed the border into Arizona, ICE took him into custody at a church where he was resting after his journey, suffering from injuries to his spine and legs he received while kidnapped.

He is still in ICE detention in Arizona, receiving little or no medical attention, and awaiting a hearing on his asylum claims. Your contribution will help fund a lawyer to help him fight for asylum in the U.S. Thank you!
