Chico is a little Chihauhua mix we rescued from a shelter. He is settling in and learning to relax in his foster home, but he needs medical treatment for a painful eye condition known as "cherry eye,"* which has caused a red lump to protrude from his eyelid. Unfortunately, it hasn't responded to non-surgical treatment, and our veterinarians have determined that surgery is necessary to prevent long-term discomfort and protect his vision.

*Cherry eye is a condition in which a tear gland in the dog's third eyelid (yes, they have a third eyelid!) sort of falls out of it's usual position and sticks out. If the dog scratches the area or it gets injured another way, it can become infected. Surgery can stitch the gland back to its proper position.
