You may not be familiar with Red Hand Day — an international awareness day calling for the protection of children from recruitment and exploitation by armed groups.

But for many children in Colombia, this issue is not symbolic. It is real.

According to United Nations–verified data reported by UNICEF, documented cases of child recruitment in Colombia increased from 116 in 2020 to 453 in 2024. On average, one child is recruited or used every 20 hours.

At Child Liberation Foundation, we believe awareness must turn into action.

On February 22 in Medellín, children and their caregivers will gather publicly for Red Hand Day — standing together to send a clear message:

Children are to be protected, not used.

But many families cannot afford safe transportation to attend.

🚌 Each bus costs $600 and provides 40 seats for children and caregivers.
Our goal is to fund multiple buses so that every child who wants to participate can arrive safely, accompanied, and visible.
