Ghost Medical

UPDATES:

3/28/25: Ghost has been discharged from the ER and is home on crate rest. He is healing from his original surgery (to improve his breathing quality) plus recovering from pneumonia.

3/24/25: Ghost’s medical team was able to remove the intubation tube and Ghost is breathing on his own, with the help of an oxygen kennel. He is still under 24/7 observation.

3/20/25 late evening: Ghost is experiencing difficulty breathing and we are rushing him to the ER for intubation.

3/18/25: Ghost successfully completed to correct his Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS) and cryptorchid neuter testicle.

You met Ghost during our Giving Tuesday campaign. He's got an unforgettable face, but just in case you've forgotten — he looks tough on the outside, but is really a big/little squisher! Ghost is the result of overbreeding... when individuals breed for diminutive size, health complications and birth defects often arise, which is what we are seeing in Ghost.

Ghost was found abandoned on the side of the road with a lot of injuries, an ear infection, hookworms, swollen blistered paws, and large wounds on the back of both legs. With the help of our generous donors, we were able to get him healthier.

When we took on Ghost, we had no idea how much this little bundle would cost us, but we’re committed to doing everything we can to give him the best quality of life possible. 🩵Unfortunately, it looks like we need to rally around this little guy again to make sure he has a happy ending in his furever home.

👉 Because of overbreeding, Ghost has a host of medical issues that are very challenging for this sweet 3 year old:

  • His back legs don't bend, so when he sits, his little feet point up like a little elf,
  • He has esophageal diverticulum which means he has to eat soft food upright, in something like a high chair. This isn't an issue now, but if it causes problems in the future, it will need to be addressed,
  • He has cryptorchid neuter testicle, which means one of his guys is hiding and we want to get it now while he's under so he doesn't have to be put under anesthesia later, because..
  • He has Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS), which means that his nostrils are not letting in enough oxygen so he is a perpetual mouth breather and has a hard time breathing, particularly when he is playing, which 3 year olds want to do, and as summer gets closer, this will be a bigger issue.

The plus side is that Ghost is NOT in pain, but we want for him to be stable enough to go to his furever home and live a long happy life.

We haven't given up on Ghost and we hope you haven't either. Will you help ghost by supporting his medical care via the link below!
