Foster and kinship families often open their homes on short notice. Around the holidays, the cost, the time, and the pressure of planning a full meal can add up fast. High Desert Forage supports foster and kinship families and transition-age youth in Washoe County with food and life-skills support. This Thanksgiving, we're launching Holiday in a Box, a small pilot that gives families everything they need for a complete holiday dinner.

Each insulated tote includes:

Precooked turkey, ham, or vegetarian dish
Homestyle stuffing with chicken broth and fresh, diced celery and onions, ready in minutes
Mashed potatoes and gravy
A vegetable side dish
Cranberry sauce and rolls
Sparkling cider for the table
Cookies
Simple, step-by-step recipe cards, so anyone can make a great meal with little time, equipment, or experience

OUR GOAL: $1,000

About $50 provides one full Holiday in a Box, so $1,000 helps us reach 20 boxes. This pilot is a proof of concept. What we learn will shape future seasonal kits and our life-skills programs for foster families and youth aging out of care.

High Desert Forage is fiscally sponsored by AHA Projects, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

Thank you for helping us grow roots this holiday season!
