Story
Dear World,
We are a group of young Diné (aka Navajo) People who treasure our language, culture and lifeways. The Hoghan is the place where we practice and teach all these things. Every element of the Hoghan has meaning and significance like a compass for life. We are building a hoghan in hopes that it will be a meeting center for children, teenagers, parents and elderlies, to learn and practice our traditional ways of living. We hope it will be a blessing and a safe place for our community. This hoghan is an outgrowth of a community effort that is ongoing that is loosely organized as Diné Bina'nitin Dóó Ohoo'aah, or The People's Teaching and Learning. We have hosted dozens of community gatherings and workshops such as txachee (sweatlodge) building, sheep skin tanning, traditional recipes/agriculture, erosion prevention, moccasin making, and traditional plant knowledge.
We hope this hoghan will also be a meeting center for all Native Nations who would like to form alliances with us, as well as all races of humanity to build more unity, and to convene in New Mexico safely and constructively. We want to put out minds together in this Hoghan to heal Nihimá Nahasdzaan (Our Mother the Earth) and her suffering communities. We also hope this will be an international meeting place where people from around the world can learn Indigenous knowledge, on the terms of Indigenous Peoples, in a way that is genuinely and appropriately conveyed.
Thank you,
Diné Bina'nitin Dóó Ohoo'aah
