Welcome to my fundraising page for the Archie Williams High School! If you already read my email, the information below is the same. You can learn more about Archie Williams' story by scrolling lower on this page!
Hello Friends and Family! I'd like to ask for your support on two related fronts:
First, on September 18, I've challenged myself to run a half marathon, climbing 2500 feet in a trail running race called The Wild Boar which threads along my beloved Mt. Tam overlooking the Pacific Ocean. While I love to hike, mountain bike, ski, and stay active, running has long been a challenge due to some old ankle injuries. So I'm taking on this challenge to do something a bit daunting physically and to put focus on rehabbing these injuries. Knowing that my friends and family are cheering me on would mean the world to me! So that is ask #1!
Secondly, and related to my run, I hope that I can use this opportunity to support something else that is very important to me and the community I live in. As some of you may know, our local high school in San Anselmo (formerly Sir Francis Drake HS) has gone through a renaming process this past year. While the process was challenging for our community, the name ultimately selected - Archie Williams High School honors an incredible man who was a true hero in our community and beyond.
Mr. Williams was a gold medalist in the 400m dash during the 1936 Olympics, a Tuskegee Airmen during World War II and a teacher at the school formerly known as Sir Francis Drake High for 21 years! In short, a humble and truly inspiring person we can all be proud of. Read more about his life and legacy below...
As part of the community-led and funded renaming process, we are working hard to raise funds to pay for updated signage, uniforms, artistic and educational installations, and much more.
And so comes my second ask… in honor of this amazing man and my effort to push myself on the mountain, I hope you will donate to the Archie Williams High School Renaming project.
I love you all so much and appreciate ANYTHING you can do to support this important project!
