Kinship caregivers, foster youth, and parents are doing the hardest work—often with the least support. We’re here to change that.

We’re launching a pilot prevention and support initiative through Hope for the City, Inc. called Brighter Steps, KinCare, and we need your help to make it sustainable.

Why This Matters:

Too many families are only offered help after they’ve reached a breaking point. Kinship caregivers are stepping up unexpectedly. Foster youth are aging out without basic essentials. Parents who want to do better often don’t know where to turn.

Brighter Steps, KinCare exists to walk with families before crisis—not after.

What We’re Doing Right Now

Even in our pilot phase, the need is already real:

👨‍👩‍👧 5 kinship caregivers raising children outside of traditional foster care
🧑🏽‍🎓 10 foster youth receiving life-skills support and essential care items
🤍 3 parents actively working to stabilize their families and prevent further system involvement

How Funds Will Be Used

Your support helps us take immediate, practical action:

Hygiene & Care Baskets
Dignity-centered essentials for foster youth and kinship families (personal care items, socks, grooming supplies, infant needs).
Life Skills & Stabilization Support
Supporting youth and caregivers through guidance, navigation, and practical tools that systems often overlook.
Community-Based Prevention
Helping families access resources before child welfare involvement escalates—housing referrals, benefits navigation, court support (non-legal), and caregiver education.

About the Founder:

Hope for the City, Inc. was founded in 2018 and is currently being revived to meet urgent community needs. The work is led by Schronda Williams, a kinship caregiver, community advocate, and social work student who has spent years supporting families both personally and through nonprofit and advocacy work.

Brighter Steps, KinCare was born out of lived experience—because families deserve support before crisis, not only after.

This campaign supports the creation of hygiene and care baskets for:

Foster youth participating in life skills and independent living programs
Kinship families who have stepped up to care for children with little notice or support

Many youth and caregivers are navigating tight budgets, system involvement, and emotional stress — yet basic personal care items are often overlooked. These baskets are designed to restore dignity, promote self-care, and remind youth and caregivers that they are seen and supported.

Each basket may include donated or purchased items such as:

Toothbrushes and toothpaste
Deodorant
Body wash or soap
Shampoo and conditioner
Lotion
Feminine hygiene products (as appropriate)
Grooming items (combs, brushes, etc.)
Socks and basic essentials
A handwritten note of encouragement or resource card

Every contribution—big or small—helps us keep showing up for families who are doing their best with limited support.
