Marygrace Stermole's Story

A few words from my heart. I hate bugging people. I know how busy everyone is with kids, families, work, sports and a list of other responsibilities. I know it because I live it and can barely find time to check all the necessary boxes let alone add anything to my plate. But this project is worth bugging you over. I can tell you that I wanted to jump out of my chair and go hug my friend Wendy when Pastor Shane announced our church would be embarking on this because it MATTERS. I am living what these single mamas are living in Mexico, but they have it much harder than I do. I am surrounded by family and friends that support me. I can live off of my late husband's death benefits to feed and clothe my kids. If I didn't get that financial grace, I would be like one of these mamas. I would be working two jobs since I hadn't worked in 10 years while I was a stay-at-home mama raising my babies. I had no career to go back to. That's what these women have to do to feed their kids. They work long hours, and some have to work multiple jobs. They are faced with a choice. Do they choose to stay home and protect them (as best they can) and watch them starve or pray and go to work and hope that no one sexually assaults their daughters and their sons while they're at work! It's a choice none of us should have to make. I have often pondered over the last few years how God will use my story for His glory. I have widow friends who have started widow support groups and Bible studies, friends who dedicate their time to support widows of first responders, and widow friends who have even written books hoping their journey lights a way for others to follow and know they can make it through the valley of death. I have been blessed by all of these women. Yet, my heart longs to reach the fatherless. In the book of James, he so clearly states that we are to care for the widows and fatherless... that is pure and unblemished religion. That is the heart of the Father. I have unfortunately had the unique opportunity to see what becoming fatherless can do to a child's heart. I have seen what can happen to children when they lose the person who was supposed to be their protector. I don't want any child to suffer the way my kids have, and a Hope Home offers two 'Father's heart' gifts. It protects His children, and it offers hope and peace to desperate mamas who want nothing more than to love, care for and protect their babies. The Holy Spirit often reminds me of Esther 4:14, 'For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father's family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?' I know that if I could save even one child from suffering abandonment and abuse and from living with that torment forever it would be worth every second of effort. I hope you'll join me in this fight for kiddos and single mamas!
