Huya Aniwa Institute
As we look to the next chapter of our work, the Huya Aniwa Institute emerges as our primary initiative for the coming five years. Located on the sacred lands of La Noria in the municipality of Mazatlán, within a natural corridor connected to the biodiversity of the Meseta de Cacaxtla Reserve in Northwestern Mexico, the Institute is envisioned as a living model of regeneration. Guided by Indigenous wisdom and grounded in long-term ecological stewardship, it is designed to protect threatened ecosystems while revitalizing cultural relationships to land, water, and community.
La Noria is currently facing significant ecological pressure from illegal logging, charcoal production, cattle ranching, and agave monocultures that are stripping forest cover, drying rivers, and pushing endangered species such as the region’s jaguar toward extinction. The Huya Aniwa Institute was born as a direct response to these realities, rooted in reciprocity and responsibility. More than a project, it is a commitment to embody the future we seek: restoring forests, protecting water sources, cultivating food sovereignty, and creating a sanctuary where present and future generations can live in right relationship with the natural world.
