The Midwest’s Largest Farm Animal Sanctuary

SASHA Farm is a safe and peaceful place where animals rescued from neglect, abuse, and exploitation can live out their lives with dignity. We are home to more than 175 animals, including cows, pigs, goats, sheep, chickens, turkeys, horses, mules, donkeys, and even one emu. Every animal that lives here has a unique and inspiring story, and for each one, this sanctuary is their forever home.

At SASHA Farm, we provide more than just food, water, shelter, and veterinary care. We offer love, companionship, and a true sense of security. Our mission is to protect and care for animals while also inspiring people to live more compassionately. Through education and outreach, we advocate for a world where kindness extends to all beings. By encouraging a plant-based lifestyle, we hope to reduce suffering and help protect animals, people, and the planet.

SASHA Farm is not only a refuge for animals, but it is also a place of healing and connection for everyone who visits. Here, people can reconnect with nature, experience the power of compassion, and rediscover the bond we all share with animals. Many find that the peaceful rhythm of the sanctuary brings comfort, clarity, and a renewed sense of purpose. Healing happens on many levels, both for the animals who have endured hardship and for the people who care for them and learn from their resilience.

Our story began more than 30 years ago with the rescue of a nine-month-old Border Collie and Spaniel mix from a pet shop. After being surrendered by her adoptive family, she found her forever home at the farm. With her white-tipped tail and gentle spirit, Sasha quickly became the sanctuary’s quiet guardian, watching over each new arrival. She remained a faithful companion for 17 years. In her memory, we became SASHA Farm, which stands for Sanctuary And Safe Haven for Animals. The name reflects our promise. This is a place where animals are safe and loved, and where people are welcomed, inspired, and renewed through the connections they make here.

What began as a small effort in the 1980s has grown into the Midwest’s largest farm animal sanctuary. As the number of animals in need increased, so did the support from our community, leading to the formal establishment of SASHA Farm as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in 2002. This designation helps ensure that our mission of rescue, protection, and advocacy can continue well into the future. All donations are tax-deductible and directly support the care and well-being of our animal residents.

For more than three decades, SASHA Farm has provided safety, comfort, and lifelong care to animals who deserve a second chance. In return, they remind us of the strength of the human-animal bond and the power of compassion.
