Homeland is a faith-based homeless outreach group and Recognized Student Organization at the University of Louisville, founded in September 2023. We are so excited to kick off our second year and first full year as an RSO!! We are a group passionate about serving Christ and serving others.

Homeland’s goal is to share the light of Jesus with the Louisville’s homeless community while also tending to their physical needs. We want to provide for those we serve in a physical manner by giving them necessary survival resources, but we believe it is even more important to let people know of the free gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. The things of this world will fade away, but He will remain forever. We don’t just want them to have resources, but we want them to have the source.

We have a consistent group of 9-12 students that meet every other Saturday for outreach, and we mainly serve the following areas: on-campus, Old Louisville, Churchill Downs/Taylor Boulevard, Eastern and Southern Parkway. Our meetings start on UofL’s campus, where we have prayer and Bible reading time. We then split up in 2-3 cars and go out and serve the community. We prioritize learning their names, hearing their stories, and praying with them. We want to point them back to Jesus through our words and actions and share the Gospel when we get the opportunity.

We are excited to grow the ministry that God has allowed us to steward, and we have some goals. For resources, we already give out clothing, snack bags, water, and some blankets, hygiene products, and shoes. We would like to expand the resources we give out so we can consistently distribute hygiene products, seasonal items (gloves, hats, etc.), and blankets, and add some new items such as batteries, flashlights, and bike locks. Our biggest goal, however, is to be able to provide TARC passes to the homeless in special circumstances. Transportation is a major issue in the homeless community, and they often are unable to get to places that could help them take a step out of homelessness. Often, they as trying to get their ID or birth certificate, go to job interviews, or go to homeless services/shelters, and are unable to get there. This would be a major win for helping those we serve, and we cannot do this without your support.

By supporting us, you are partnering with us in ministry to reach the lost. Our goal is $400/month in monthly donors, so we can have a consistent budget and be confident in being able to provide these new services. Even more than funds, we need a whole group of believers lifting up this ministry in prayer. Thank you for your support, and anything you can give matters, small or large.
