On Giving Tuesday, support the South Orange/Maplewood Community Coalition on Race as we work to make buying a home in South Orange and Maplewood (SOMA) more attainable for our Black and non-White Hispanic neighbors!

For 25 years, the Coalition on Race has been commited to promoting integration through consistent advocacy, and by providing opportunities to bring people together in community building and dialogue.

In 2022, we launched the Wealth Gap Equalizer Loan (WGEL) program to help narrow the racial wealth and home ownership gap by making home-buying more attainable for Black and non-White Hispanic families in the South Orange and Maplewood communities through no-interest loans supporting the costly home-buying process.

The South Orange Maplewood Community Coalition on Race is a nationally-recognized, progressive, grassroots community group committed to racial integration and equity. It was founded in 1996 by a diverse group of volunteers concerned about the under-representation of people of color in the civic life of our towns, about realtor steering, about a perceived decline in the quality of schools, and about stagnating property values.
