Dance the Continuum: The Black Art Fund in Action

“Dance is not just movement; it is our archive, our prophecy, and our power.”

Dance the Continuum is more than our fundraising campaign—it is IABD’s active pledge to ensure Black dance artists, companies, and masterworks have the financial infrastructure necessary to thrive without compromise.

Initially established through the Wallace Foundation’s Advancing Well-Being in the Arts initiative, the Black Art Fund for Dance began specifically to support the creative process for individuals and organizations working within the dance ecosystem and rooted in their communities. In its new iteration, powered by our community, the Black Art Fund for Dance commits to Preserving Our Heritage, Commissioning New Canons, and Sustaining the Field.

Preserving Our Heritage

Maintaining, archiving, and restaging the canon of Black dance masterworks, as well as educating generations on the repository of Black dance innovators, legends and pioneers. We protect the foundation for our movement, ensuring that histories and stories are never lost.

Commissioning New Canons

Funding stirring cultural creations from Black choreographers. Artists are supported with time and capital needed to develop accurate stories that depict community in action.

Sustaining the Field

Building long-term financial resilience for Black dance companies and independent dance artists. We ensure that our institutions aren’t just surviving from season to season but building generational permanence.

Your investment in The Black Art Fund is more than just a donation; it is signing your name as a co-creator of our collective legacy.

$125 safeguards archival materials and historical dance documentation.
$500 sustains independent dance artists and choreographers.
$1000 underwrites commissions for new choreography and restaging of classic repertoire.
