In Memoriam: C. Beth DunCombe, Esq.

C. Beth DunCombe, a Past President of the Wolverine Bar Association, was an accomplished attorney, respected leader, and passionate advocate for the legal profession and the City of Detroit.

As one of the first women to serve as President of the Wolverine Bar Association, Beth helped pave the way for greater inclusion and leadership opportunities for women in the legal community. Her presidency reflected not only her professional excellence but also her commitment to mentorship, integrity, and service. As with many other past presidents, Beth strengthened the Association’s voice and helped inspire a new generation of lawyers to pursue excellence and impact.

Beth’s legal career was equally distinguished. As a partner at Dickinson Wright, she emerged as a recognized leader in the firm’s bankruptcy and insolvency practice. Her expertise and insight earned her national recognition within insolvency and restructuring circles, where she was widely respected for her sharp legal acumen, thoughtful counsel, and unwavering professionalism. Clients and colleagues alike valued her ability to navigate complex financial challenges with clarity and compassion.

Beyond her work in the courtroom and boardroom, Beth devoted herself to the revitalization of her beloved city of Detroit. As President and CEO of the Detroit Economic Growth Corporation, she played an instrumental role in advancing initiatives that supported economic development, business growth, and community renewal. Her leadership helped bring together public and private partners to strengthen the city’s future and reaffirm Detroit’s resilience.

Beth DunCombe’s legacy is one defined by leadership, service, and lasting impact. Whether advancing the legal profession, guiding complex insolvency matters, or championing Detroit’s continued growth, she consistently demonstrated a commitment to excellence and a belief in the power of dedicated leadership to transform communities.

Beth was a proud graduate of Cass Technical High School, the University of Michigan, and Georgetown Law School. We honor Beth not only for the milestones she achieved, but also for the path she helped others create whether as a Technician, Wolverine, Hoya, WBA President, or CEO. Her influence will continue to shape the legal community and the city she so proudly served.
