Fall Residency 2025 [In De Back of God's Eyes]
We are raising $2,500 to support our upcoming Subcircle residency in Biddeford, Maine from Sept 22-Oct 1, 2025. These donations will help us to close a $1,050 gap in our budget. Achieving our full fundraising goal of $2,500 will ensure that we are providing equitable pay for the six artists participating in the residency and fully covering travel costs. Any additional funds raised after we meet our goal will go towards developing the full-length production of In De Back of God’s Eyes.
You can also support this residency and our project by pre-ordering shea butter directly from Mawu’s site! These decadent, handcrafted butters will be available for local (Philadelphia) pick up and shipping in October- just in time for cooler weather. You can place your pre-orders here: www.mawuniverse.com/shopwuwurld.

Thank you so much for sharing and supporting Black queer and trans artists!
Project Description
In De Back of God’s Eyes, interrogates what’s behind the omnipotent eye. It is an immersive performance ritual held by solo performer, Mawu. The work encapsulates their personal retellings of their childhood. Sensorial reflections of Trinidad and Tobago as well as Barbados. As a communal practice of interrogating ideas of lineage the work journeys through amalgamated truths. Movement vignettes imagine how we build family, reflect on legacy and leave behind blueprints together. This work is inspired and given life by black queer Caribbean folk and all folk who are considering ideas around inheritance, ancestry, and traditions.
Fundraising Goals ($2,500)
$1,050 - Will close our budget gap, allowing us to cover all of our residency costs.
$1450 - Will allow us to increase the stipend we are offering to participating artists, who are regularly underpaid for their creative labor and traveling 6+ hours to attend the residency.
Current Residency Budget - $4,800 ($3,750 invested/raised so far)
