Chess has the ability to not only build strategic thinking and brain power, but also community.

Yet in Indianapolis, there are no recurring, casual opportunities for kids and adults to get together and work on these skills in a positive, affordable (even free), and welcoming environment.

After putting on more than 50 free chess events over two years, a group of chess enthusiasts, chess parents, and friends have joined together to launch Indy Chess, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit (IRS status pending)!

Beginning this April, there will be a weekly casual chess night for kids and adults in Indy, monthly kids' tournaments, adult workshops, school programs, summer camps, and more. In the near future there will be volunteer training and ongoing support to help people around Indy start chess programs at even more schools!

But to do this, there are many start-up expenses: insurance, website hosting, equipment, software, hardware, etc. A generous board member of Indy Chess believes in this mission so much he offered a $5,000 matching gift if we can raise that much before the first event of the organization on April 4!
