Migdal Ohr is a very special place in the north of Israel where the tzadik Rabbi Yitzchak David Grossman has created an entire city devoted to raising children who are orphans or who come from very poor and neglected backgrounds.

On the campus, there are Mishpachton family dorms where 12 children live with a foster couple. There are also horseback riding stables, vineyards, massive sports fields, medical facilities, and 15 schools where thousands of children the surrounding areas come to learn about Judaism and get a good education that their families wouldn't be able to afford otherwise.

Migdal Ohr was started 50 years ago when Rabbi Grossman left Jerusalem after the Six Day War. He says that he wanted to do something to thank Hashem for the miracles that He had performed for him. Today, he has over 40,000 alumni who are like his children. They are leaders in Israel - serving in the army, leading businesses, involved in government, and raising Jewish families.

Rabbi Grossman is a role model for me as a bar mitzvah and I want to follow in his footsteps by turning my bar mitzvah, this major milestone in my life, as an opportunity to give to others.
