Hello!
My name is Lucia Arellano, and I am proud to return to Student Action with Farmworkers (SAF) for the Summer of 2026 as a Program Assistant. Coming back to SAF in this new role is incredibly meaningful to me because it represents both personal growth and my continued commitment to advocating for the farmworking community that shaped my life. My parents were born in Mexico and moved our family to Yuma, Arizona, where they worked tirelessly in the agricultural fields to provide my sisters and me with opportunities they never had, especially the opportunity to pursue higher education. Their sacrifices continue to inspire every step of my journey. Today, I am a proud first-generation college student at Arizona State University pursuing my Bachelor’s degree in Business Law, with plans to attend law school after graduation. My career goals are deeply rooted in helping underserved communities like my own by fighting for fair labor practices, access to education, workers’ rights, and dignity for farmworker families. I want to use my education and future legal career to create lasting change for the people whose labor feeds our nation. Returning to SAF as a Program Assistant allows me to continue building leadership skills while directly supporting farmworker communities through outreach, education, and advocacy. SAF has played an important role in strengthening my passion for social justice and community empowerment, and I am honored to now help guide and support students who are learning about the realities farmworkers face every day.

Mi nombre es Lucia Arellano y este verano 2026 tengo la gran oportunidad de regresar con Student Action with Farmworkers (SAF), pero ahora como Program Assistant. Para mí, regresar a SAF significa muchísimo porque no solo vuelvo a una organización que cambió mi vida, sino que también regreso representando a mi familia, mis raíces y a toda la comunidad trabajadora del campo que me vio crecer. Mis papás nacieron en México y llegaron a Yuma, Arizona, buscando una mejor vida para nuestra familia. Desde pequeña vi el sacrificio que hacían trabajando largas horas en los campos bajo el calor para que mis hermanas y yo pudiéramos tener oportunidades que ellos nunca tuvieron. Todo lo que hago es gracias a ellos. Hoy soy estudiante universitaria de primera generación en Arizona State University estudiando Derecho Empresarial, y sueño con ir a la escuela de leyes para seguir luchando por mi comunidad. Quiero dedicar mi carrera a defender a trabajadores, familias inmigrantes y comunidades que muchas veces no tienen voz ni apoyo. Quiero usar mi educación para abrir puertas para otros como mis papás. SAF me ayudó a encontrar mi voz, mi pasión y el valor de luchar por la justicia para los trabajadores del campo. Ahora regresar como Program Assistant es algo muy especial porque puedo ayudar, apoyar y motivar a otros estudiantes mientras seguimos creando conciencia sobre las realidades que viven las familias campesinas todos los días.
Su apoyo significa mucho más de lo que imaginan. Están apoyando a estudiantes como yo que queremos regresar a nuestras comunidades para hacer un cambio real. Están apoyando los sueños de familias trabajadoras que merecen respeto, oportunidades y un futuro mejor.
Como parte de esta oportunidad, estoy ayudando a recaudar $750 para SAF, con el fin de que programas como este puedan seguir apoyando a estudiantes y a familias de trabajadores agrícolas. Cualquier donación —grande o pequeña— significa muchísimo y ayuda a hacer posible esta experiencia.
