Hi friends, Please join my team! I’d like to take a moment to bring awareness to ocular melanoma the type of cancer I have been diagnosed with in 2012 and continue to fight this beast . It’s a very rare form of cancer affecting only six in 1 million people per year because it’s so uncommon many doctors are not familiar how to treat it and patients have to travel long distances to see a specialist. May is ocular melanoma awareness month, and I want to encourage everyone to get a dilated eye exam every year. It could truly make a difference. I also want to share the story of an incredible woman named Ashley McCrary, who is also fighting ocular melanoma. Despite her own battle, she found the strength and compassion to help others. She recognized the financial burden many face when needing to travel for specialized care, and her foundation helps cover travel expenses for those with ocular melanoma who otherwise could not afford it. This mission means a great deal to me. Because of this foundation I was able to travel to Philadelphia to see one of the top Ocular melanoma doctors in the country for a second opinion. I was also able to travel to Tampa to see about a clinical trial. The foundation also helped with travel expenses for my daughter, Candice Lourenco So I would not have to make these trips alone.
