Hi, my name is Jared Kleinert, and I'm running an ultramarathon in the Run Amok 50K this November to raise money for Sofia, a strong, spirited 5 year old in Atlanta who is about to undergo two life-changing surgeries. Below, you can learn more about Sofia's journey, so far, through the eyes of her mom, Erika. It was Erika's leadership by example, and the love that only a mother could have for their child, that inspired me to sign up for a 50K (31 mile) road race in October. Having completed my first ultra in April, I know that I'm about to experience severe blisters on my feet, cramps in every leg muscle I have that will beg me to quit during my run, and weeks of soreness from training and the race itself that are not "fun". But, what I'm putting myself through is nothing compared to what Sofia's been living with as a result of a rare condition called Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita, which has given her weak, almost immobilized, arms and legs for the first few years of her life. Now, Sofia is preparing to undergo two major surgeries this fall to hopefully give her the ability to walk without braces and lead a normal, independent life as she matures. Erika and Sofia still need over $10,000 for the surgeries, therapy, and other associated costs, but if we can raise even a small fraction of that, I would be extremely grateful. I'm putting my body on the line for this cause, much like Erika did to raise funds for Sofia's surgeries by signing up for a charity boxing tournament. 100% of donations will go towards Sofia's double leg surgeries and associated costs.
