Jeff Goldblum- the rescued chicken's Fundraiser
We have an update to share about Jeff Goldblum. He recently had to visit the vet for some feet issues.
His toes and the bottoms of his feet started going purple out of nowhere. After an evaluation at the vet we figured he either has a foot infection that would be causing this, or somehow got frostbite.
We’re not sure how he would’ve gotten frost bite, where he’s put to bed every night to sleep in a heated coop with the others. And where daily temps when he’s exploring outside haven’t been dangerously low.
But Jeff could have poor circulation or possibly an underlying heart condition that would make him more susceptible to something like frost bite even just from being outside in the cold when the others are okay.
Right now he’s being treated for both frost bite and infection, since we’re not very clear on which he has. He had an X-ray to verify it wasn’t a severe bone infection that was eating away toes. And got a culture taken that we should have back soon to verify if/what kind infection he has going on if any.
His recovery care requires a dry indoor space, daily foot soaks, time outside if the weather is warm with no mud, and medications with every meal. At our sanctuary, no mud is a bit of a stretch for the time being unfortunately.
So our wonderful animal caretaker, Alec, volunteered to foster him at home for a couple weeks, for Jeff to heal a bit easier and still have some outside time but without the mud.
Jeff’s bestie Ariana Grande, is staying with him to keep him company, as they’re bonded and separating them isn’t good for their mental health.
These two chickens have been through a lot, and deserve all the love and support we can give them. When they were found on the side of the road a few months ago, Jeff was so beaten up and bruised his original foster wasn’t sure he’d make it.
So far, Jeff and Ari have been loving playing in the grass, and getting some extra time to hangout with Alec. But, with medial support comes medial bills. So we’ve started a fundraiser to help cover Jeff’s bills.
Any and every donation helps and is extremely appreciated, thank you so much!!
