In 2019:

Grassroots and grasstops organizers and trusted legal advocates convened at "In Defense of Organizing" in Phoenix, Arizona. The convening brought together a deeply knowledgeable and experienced group of people from 13 states, representing 30 organizations. It sparked a visionary discussion on law and organizing in the immigrant rights movement and how to build an immigration movement lawyering community that truly supported transformative organizing.

Just Futures Law ("JFL") was born.

In just 5 years, JFL has confronted new frontiers of policing and deportation while fighting escalating anti-immigrant hate and policing. We put skin in the game to:

combat invasive surveillance and data exploitation
defend privacy and civil rights
get people released from immigration detention
protect immigrant organizers from retaliation by the government
stop corporations from profiting off surveillance, deportation, and incarceration technologies.

JFL has grown from a collective, volunteer effort led by a small cohort of women of color and allies to a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization with 9 full-time staff.
