The ongoing government shutdown has left the release of emergency SNAP benefits uncertain, impacting more than 42 million Americans, including over 23,000 individuals right here in Chautauqua County. That’s one in six of our neighbors, friends, and family members facing food insecurity.
When monthly SNAP benefits were expected to be replenished on November 1st and weren’t, our community stepped up in a big way! Raising over $12,000 in just a few days! Because of your generosity, we were able to provide food vouchers to 450 people at the Jamestown Farmers Market! No one was turned away! Each voucher supported not only families in need, but also local farmers and vendors, helping them sustain their own livelihoods during this difficult time.
Now, as the shutdown continues, the need is growing. We’re raising additional funds to keep the Community Food Fund going. Providing $15 in market food vouchers for each person in a household, and coordinating with partners to get food to those who can’t easily reach the market. These vouchers are available to SNAP recipients and unpaid federal employees affected by the shutdown.
Every dollar you give will be matched by the AM - Rotary Club of Jamestown, the Jamestown Farmers Market, St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, and the St. Luke’s Thrift Shop - up to $2,250!
We are so grateful to our local business supporters - Patient’s Pharmacy, Lifted Dispensary, and Tim Hortons Southern Tier who provided matching funds in the past few weeks - and to every person who has donated, shared, or volunteered. Your support ensures those in need in our community can put fresh, local food on the table. 😍
