John Toon
John Toon is a devoted single father of four young girls (13, 9, 6, and 5) from Sibley, Missouri, a skilled electrician, and the longtime bassist for The Outakes in Kansas City. Last Father’s Day, John was rushed to the ER after multiple seizures. He was later diagnosed with aggressive Grade 3/4 brain cancer.
Since then, John has endured a biopsy, significant speech challenges, and loss of mobility on his right side. He has been placed on disability from his job at VC999, receiving only 60% of his income—about $910 per week—while trying to provide for his daughters. Although he has insurance through COBRA, medical bills are mounting, including a $3,000 out-of-pocket deductible and additional uncovered expenses.
John’s 72-year-old mother temporarily relocated from Texas to care for him and the girls—driving him to daily treatments in Lee’s Summit, managing medications, and keeping the household running. Now, after seeking advanced treatment at MD Anderson in Texas, John has learned that cancer cells have spread to his spinal fluid. Due to a recent infection and severe weakness, treatment has paused. Rather than enter inpatient care or hospice, John chose to return to his girls and receive palliative care, surrounded by family.
As John fights courageously for every moment with his daughters, the financial strain continues to grow—mortgage payments, medical expenses, travel costs, and daily living needs.
We are seeking support to help cover John’s medical deductible and uncovered bills, stabilize his mortgage, and provide ongoing assistance to ensure his four daughters are cared for during this incredibly difficult time. Any gift will directly ease the burden on John and his girls, allowing them to focus on what matters most: being together.
Thank you for standing with John and his family during this fight.
