Lent: Sacrificial Giving

My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

St. John Paul II said to the youth at World Youth Day in 2000, "Do not be afraid to be the saints of the new millennium!" These words resonate deeply with the challenges and opportunities our young people experience today, particularly those who are navigating the journey of higher education. In a world that tries to pull them away from their faith, it is essential that we, as a community, stand firm in our commitment to keeping our college kids rooted in their Catholic identity.

As we continue in this sacred season of Lent, a time of reflection, repentance, and renewal, I reach out to you with a heartfelt appeal to implore your generous support for the needs of our beloved university parish. During this season we are called to walk with Christ in the desert. We are called to strive for more and to sacrifice more so that we can better see how God has enriched our lives with His presence. By giving sacrificially, you not only express your gratitude for the abundant blessings bestowed upon you but also participate in the redemptive work of Christ, who gave His very life for our salvation.

Let our Lenten almsgiving be a tangible expression of our desire to share in the sufferings of Christ and to extend His love and compassion to all, but especially to the future generations of His Church. I ask you today to include Saint John Paul II University Parish in your Lenten giving so that this parish, located just across the street from UNT and a short drive from TWU, will continue to thrive as a spiritual home where souls are nourished, minds are enlightened, and hearts are transformed by the love of Christ.

Will you donate today to support the Church of tomorrow? Our goal for this Lenten appeal is $30,000 which will help to offset financial shortfalls we experienced recently. Your gift will provide for the operational needs of this unique and wonderful parish, keeping our missionary team present on college campuses every week and our doors open daily for all.

In conclusion, my dear brothers and sisters, let us embrace this holy season of Lent with fervent hearts and open hands, ready to walk with Christ along the path of self-denial, spiritual growth, and service to others. May our sacrificial giving be a testament to our love for God and neighbor, and may it bear abundant fruit in the lives of those we are called to serve.

With paternal affection and prayers for each of you, I remain

Yours devotedly in Christ,

Father Jose Francis, TOR
