Stronger Together. Together, WE will do great things!

Over the past year our JQES students have endured trauma, loss of social connection, fear associated with the pandemic, in addition to the social unrest we currently face. Our community needs to heal, and the healing needs to start with our children. Our students (83% of whom are high needs and 88% of whom identify as Black, Latinx, Asian, Indigenous and people of color) have endured significant challenges this year, which have only been intensified by remote learning.

Now, here we are. One year later. A year that has transformed our country, our city, our neighborhoods, our families and our school. Our teachers, staff and community have come together to distribute school materials, hold additional calls and meetings with parents, develop engaging virtual activities, and ensure our families have the support they need. With patience, grace, and flexibility our school community has stayed committed to our JQES values: Focus, Integrity, Respect and Empathy and our Vision to prepare our students to be Contributing Global Citizens.

Recover & Reimagine

While there are unknowns, here is what we do know:

  • We know we need to continue the strong traditions of JQES, our values and mission.
  • We know we need to ensure an equitable recovery for our students.
  • We know our students will need more support than ever before and that our school is the place to receive it.
  • We know we have a chance to reimagine education to support our students’ recovery and leverage their new skills acquired during the pandemic.

Help us raise funds to support students' healing and growth:

  • Address the trauma that students have experienced by providing social emotional and self-regulation coaches ($10,000)
  • Target individual needs by holding small groups for kids who need assistance with academics and support for individual learning needs and interventions. $5,000 allows 25 students with 10 weeks of small group intervention and $1,250 covers 5 students with 6 weeks of intensive interventions.
  • Increase opportunities for physical activity and social and emotional growth ($32,000) for a full-time Playworks coach to implement safe, inclusive play at recess.  Additional ($20,000) to increase our Movement Specialist to 5 days a week.
  • Plan for acceleration with technology for our future-forward classrooms: Including Chromebook carts ($800 classroom), projectors ($500 each), headphones ($250 class set), projection screens ($100)
  • Build an equity centered culture that recognizes and builds on student assets. Professional development for teachers ($12,000).
  • Provide enrichment opportunities: For example K2 Mass. Audubon Owl Visit ($750), First Grade Trip to Parlee Farm ($1600), Science from Scientists ($5,000) for one grade level

Support JQES in returning Stronger and let us Reimagine how our school community can thrive with your help as we begin to recover Stronger Together.
