While visiting Kenya, Africa, for the first time, I met a small village pastor named Dominic who had just returned from the funeral of a young man. This young man’s death left behind a beautiful family consisting of a wife and four children destitute. I asked Dominique, “How will this young mother with four children survive?” His answer was simple.

He said, “They have a vegetable garden. The vegetables from the garden will be supplemented with goat’s milk that will provide enough fat in their diet so they won’t suffer from malnutrition.” He further explained, “With a pair of goats consisting of a he-goat and a she-goat, the family of five won’t starve. Down the road, baby goats from the pair can be sold so the four children can buy schoolbooks and continue their education.”

I responded by saying, “Dominic, that’s brilliant! What makes it most awesome is that it’s sustainable.” I then asked, “Have you already delivered the goats that will sustain the needs of this young family?”

Dominic’s answer took me by surprise.

He said, “Actually, we have a problem in that we don’t have the money to buy a pair of goats.”

I then asked, “What’s the cost of a pair of goats?”

His answer, “The cost of a goat is $50, around $100 per pair.”

I responded, “So you’re telling me that just $100 for a pair of goats would prevent this young family from suffering from malnutrition?”

He answered, “That’s right.”

I then did what most would have done in a similar situation. I reached into my pocket for a $100 bill and handed it over to my new friend, Dominic. He was deeply touched and promised that he would act fast in buying the pair of goats for this family. In fact, he was kind enough to video the actual giving of the two goats to this beautiful family at their humble hut located in a small village.

This experience inspired a foundation called The Goat Foundation, Giving Hope by Giving Goats. The vision is to provide a sustainable solution preventing widows and their dependent children from going hungry… for a lifetime!

The Goat Foundation has already had many successful goat events. So far, it has donated a total of 1,000 goats to 500 widows. Subsequent follow-up visits have proven that the donated goats are a great blessing in the lives of these vulnerable widows and dependent children. We now have hundreds of Giving Hope by Giving Goats stories!

Recently, we decided to take a leap of faith by having our biggest goat event. In celebration of International Widows Day, we will give 400 goats to 200 widows!

It will take a miracle that requires asking for your help! But we know that God is a God of Miracles!

In the most widely published book in the world, it reads, "Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this: To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction…" (James 1:27).

By giving support to The Goat Foundation, you will provide sustainable giving every day to neglected widows and their children in Kenya. They will have goat’s milk for their family and income from the sale of milk provided by their growing goat herds.

As a Gold Goat Giver, by giving $1,000, you will be giving around ten pairs of goats to ten families—a he-goat and a she-goat to each family. We need at least 15 Gold Goat Givers. Are you a Gold Goat Giver?

As a Green Goat Giver, by giving $100, you can give a pair of goats, a he-goat and a she-goat, to a widow and her dependents in need. You will then provide them sustainable nutrition from the goat’s milk and sustainable income from the goats’ offspring. We need at least 150 Green Goat Givers. Are you a Green Goat Giver?
