Adults 18+ are invited to join the Youth OUTright team on July 18th from 12-2pm for our in-person Volunteer Training. You'll learn all about our values, programs, roles in the community, and ways you can plug into our work.

Whether you're interested in chaperoning events, teaching a class, tabling in the community, or simply being on the list of folks we reach out to when we need a helping hand – this is a great way to start engaging with Youth OUTright.

FAQs

Do I have to attend training in order to volunteer with Youth OUTright?

Yes. In order to prioritize the safety of young people in our programs and to ensure potential volunteers understand our mission and values, we require all volunteers to go through our training before taking on roles. We know this is a last minute notification and know that there will be more!

Will there be a background check?

Volunteers in youth-engage roles must complete a background check prior to volunteering. The safety of the young people we serve is our highest priority. We acknowledge that background checks must be analyzed through an equity lens and encourage transparent conversations with volunteers regarding any information revealed through this process. Having a record does not automatically disqualify you from becoming a volunteer – it's a conversation starter. We do not expect volunteers to cover the cost of their background check, though we appreciate any contribution you can make. Please only sign up to do a training if you know you can commit to a volunteering a few times a year and/or pay for your background check if you can! Less organizational money spent on background checks allows us to grow our volunteer base more and get more bang for our buck when it comes to paying for background checks when we only pay for them for folks who actually have capacity to show up. If you're someone who was trained last year after we ran out of money for background checks then you do not need to be retrained and we would love to cover the cost of yours now that the new fiscal year is here.

Can youth attend the training?

We do not want childcare or similar circumstances to be a barrier to joining us at the training, and welcome parents and guardians bringing kids with them to the training when we do in-person ones. That being said, folks must be over the age of 18 to engage in most volunteer roles, and the content shared will pertain to adult volunteer opportunities. Will there be additional volunteer training?

Yes. We will host additional volunteer training throughout the year as needs emerge and our staff have the capacity.
