WE DID IT!

Thanks to your help—and in less than 4 days?!—we met our fundraising goal!

Genuine thank you to everyone who donated. We are now able to get started on printing and mailing flyers to be displayed on the worksite bulletin boards, and then will pivot to creating, printing, and mailing campaign materials to each union member.

Over the course of the pandemic, workers around the country have seen how important having a strong union is to our safety. Unfortunately, throughout COVID, the Executive Board of the New York Public Library Guild Local 1930 was more interested in protecting their interests than protecting the 1,100+ members of our union. The Executive Board dismissed worker concerns, prevented members from fully participating in meetings, sold us out to management, and used union dues to treat themselves to happy hours and parties.

This Fall, Local 1930 union siblings have the opportunity to elect an entirely new Executive Board. Our work is cut out for us, as the current Executive Board has the incumbent advantage: they have name recognition, they have connections and resources, they know how to “play the game” and make it work in their favor, and they’re betting on the membership not voting in the election so they can be guaranteed a win.

This is where you come in. Rose Rank and File (RRF) is an informal movement of Local 1930 members organizing for a stronger union, and RRF is raising $1,500 to support the campaigns of the ten NYPL union siblings looking to take over the Local 1930 Executive Board in the upcoming Fall 2021 elections. $1,500 ensures that RRF can create one mailer to send out to all 1,100+ members of Local 1930, notifying them that they have the opportunity to affect change by voting for the slate of non-incumbents to renew, repair, and restore our local. This money will also allow us to send flyers to be placed on union bulletin boards at all NYPL branches and locations. Funds raised in excess of the $1,500 goal will be used to send Local 1930 siblings to Labor Notes online organizer training [https://labornotes.org].
