Howdee! My name’s Morgan and chances are you know me already– but if you are now just stumbling upon my existence; it’s very nice to meet you & please consider donating to WHRL's campaign. I’m a student at the College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, pursuing a degree in Human Ecology with a focus on place-based education. I grew up in Northern Virginia, nestled between the Potomac River and the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. At school, you may find that I am often working on various projects; engaging with peers through music, writing, and acting. I enjoy learning new histories, studying maps, and delving into artmaking. Some of my best memories come from bathing in lakes and paddling downstream on rainy days. I find myself inspired by the ocean and by my classmates to make art and organize affinity groups and happenings.
Why I am excited for this hike:
I would say that I am primarily excited for the challenge of scaling Katahdin. For a while, I remember only seeing it from a distance while paddling through Chesuncook Lake, but now I’ll be facing the mountain with the intention of summiting it. While I may be able to enjoy the bragging rights of such an accomplishment, I'm also looking forward to being out in the Maine backcountry again– this time with the view of Chesuncook Lake down below. I remember fondly my Uncle Al recounting his trek up Katahdin many years ago with my Aunt Colleen, and I’m excited for the opportunity to walk in their footsteps.
