🧡 Mango’s Emergency

Mango is a young orange tabby who was dumped with his parents and siblings and eventually found safety through KCC. At first he was terrified and hid under the bed, but over time he became social, affectionate, and bonded closely with his brother and his “nanny cat,” Oliver.

Last weekend, Mango began showing subtle signs that something was wrong — then suddenly became unable to urinate.

Mango was rushed for emergency care and diagnosed with a urinary blockage, a life-threatening condition in male cats that can be fatal within hours if untreated.

He required immediate sedation, catheter placement, bladder flushing, bloodwork, X-rays, and urinalysis. Crystals and blood were found in his urine. His kidneys were still functioning normally — a sign that he was treated just in time.

Even with a 25% rescue discount, Mango’s emergency care has exceeded $1,300 so far. The recommended treatment plan was $3,600–$5,000, but caregivers made the difficult decision to proceed with urgent unblocking and close monitoring rather than full hospitalization.

Mango is now recovering at home, but his prognosis remains uncertain, and he has not yet begun urinating normally on his own.

🧡 Felix Needed Urgent Care Too

At the same time, another KCC cat required urgent medical attention.

Felix, an 8-year-old male, became seriously ill — he stopped eating, became dehydrated, developed bleeding from both nostrils, and showed signs that something more serious was going on. His caregiver made the decision to seek immediate veterinary evaluation rather than wait and risk his condition worsening.

Felix required re-evaluation, diagnostic testing, appetite support, and fluid therapy — another unexpected emergency medical expense occurring at the same time.

Kim’s Cat Crusade covers emergency veterinary care so caregivers never have to choose between a cat’s life and their ability to pay. Two emergencies at once have put real strain on our emergency medical fund.
