It was late on a warm Friday night when Flying Pigs Sanctuary received an urgent call from a distressed homeowner in the Falling Waters neighborhood of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee. The call was about a large pig, named Charlie, who had been wandering the area and was now dangerously close to taking a dip in someone’s pool. A pig in a pool might sound amusing, but it was far from ideal—Charlie needed help, and fast.

Without hesitation, the sanctuary founder hit the road, knowing that a rescue like this was never easy, but always worth it. The mission would span 8 days, 12 hours of hands on work (lots of driving), 270 miles, and involve $100 worth of supplies, but most importantly, it would bring together a community of kindhearted neighbors and volunteers, all united in their determination to save Charlie—and what we believe to be his son now named Snoopy aka Snoop Dog.

The crazy escapade ended on Saturday after the founders of Flying Pigs made multiple calls to find someone willing to let them use a fenced in area. Jerry at Ivy Acadamy stepped up and he spent most of his Saturday assisting with the rescue mission!

With Jerry’s help and the incredible efforts of the community, both Charlie and Snoop Dog were safely secured. Exhausted but exhilarated, the Flying Pigs team loaded the two escape artists into the transport and headed home to the sanctuary.

Now, Charlie and Snoop are part of the Flying Pigs Sanctuary Farmly, where they will live out the rest of their lives with love, care, and protection. But the rescue didn’t just end with their capture; there was still the matter of covering the costs of this wild and wonderful mission—supplies, fuel, and the vet bills to ensure the pigs were healthy after their adventure. Vaccines and first vet check in on Thursday and we expect to spend $300-$400 per pig.

With a grateful heart, the Flying Pigs Sanctuary is raising funds to cover the expenses of Charlie and Snoops rescue, so they can continue their life-changing work for other animals in need. Every dollar goes toward making sure that pigs like Charlie and Snoop Dog get their second chance at life—safe, sound, and surrounded by love.

And so, with community support, a little bit of luck, and a lot of heart, Charlie and Snoopy’s journey continues, thanks to the sanctuary and all those who helped along the way.
