The Kinship Bridge Documentary Project
Bringing Healing to a Divided Nation
What started as a 40-year family mystery became an extraordinary story America needs to hear.
In 1983, my great-grandmother told me a secret that haunted me for decades: "Anderson ain't his real name. He's one of those Hodgsons."
In 2023, I finally found the courage to investigate. Through DNA testing, I discovered my true ancestry and did something that terrified me - I reached out to living descendants of our shared ancestor. I wasn't sure how they'd receive me, knowing the painful history that connected us.
What happened next gives me hope for our country's future.
Tom Hodgson in Athens, Georgia and Mark McKinnon (the CNN political advisor) welcomed me with open arms. When Tom saw the photo of our shared ancestor that I'd found, he looked up at his office wall - the same picture was hanging there. Three cousins, separated by history's most difficult chapter, chose connection over division.
Why This Documentary Matters
At a time when America feels more divided than ever, our story proves that healing is possible when we approach difficult truths with courage and grace. This isn't just a family story - it's a roadmap for reconciliation that our nation desperately needs.
The Kinship Bridge is more than a documentary. It's a movement toward truthtelling and bridge-building across racial divides, showing that families - and communities - can transcend even the most painful histories when they choose connection over conflict.
