This year, the proceeds from the kissing booth will help support the Walterboro 11 Springers, seven of which are heartworm positive and currently undergoing expensive treatment. While it depends on the severity of the heartworm, the treatment can cost up to $1,500 per dog or more.

Another issue many of the Springers have is ectropion eyelids, where the eyelids turn outwards exposing the inner surface of the eyelid to the environment which can allow dirt and irritation build up. The condition is bad enough for some of the Springers which ultimately may require surgical correction to restore proper eyelid function. 


Because the Springers were not receiving proper care, they are also receiving routine vaccinations and will be spayed or neutered. One of the male Springers was found to have severe inflammatory problems with his ears and his eyes and is currently undergoing treatment. Another is being treated for severe tarter build-up on his gums. 

It is expected that the total cost to treat the 11 Springers will run into the thousands of dollars.
