Food access has always been personal in our family.
My husband, Mike, is a local unhoused advocate here in Lansing MI. Throughout the year, our family organizes at a grassroots level, supporting neighbors navigating housing and food insecurity. We see every day that hunger is rarely just about food. It is about access.
Access to stability. Access to dignity. Access to community care.
That is why participating in Knit for Food-athon 2026 feels like a natural extension of the work we already do at home. Organizations like Feeding America, World Central Kitchen, No Kid Hungry, and Meals on Wheels make sure children, elders, and families can eat. That matters deeply to me.
As The Adaptive Knitter, I spend a lot of time thinking about what makes participation possible. Creativity, learning, community - all of it depends on basic needs being met first. Food is one of those needs. When people have access to nourishment, everything else becomes more possible.
We organize locally because we believe in showing up. Knit for Food-athon lets me widen that circle and invite my larger knitting community to show up too.
Food is foundational. And access matters. Join me and donate now!
